Honoured to receive the Blyth Spirit award 2016

I was completely taken aback last week to hear I was to receive the 2016 Blyth Spirit Award. The press release below goes out to the national press this morning, and I will proudly collect my award at RPA Players Awards ceremony in May.

Press Release:

‘Inspirational Henry Fraser to receive RPA honour’
The Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) today announced it will honour the remarkable achievements of Henry Fraser at the 2016 RPA Players’ Awards in association with England Rugby, which takes place on Wednesday 11th May at Battersea Evolution, London.

Fraser has been confirmed as the recipient of this year’s RPA Blyth Spirit Award in association with Towergate Insurance. Henry, brother of Saracens back-row Will Fraser, damaged his spinal cord during a holiday to Portugal in 2009, which left him paralysed from the neck down at the age of just 17.

Since his accident he has shown extraordinary courage and is determined to make the most of life and share his experiences with others. He has enjoyed great success as a motivational speaker, delivering his ‘Pushing Myself’ talk to a number of high profile businesses and sports teams, including Saracens and England 7’s. He’s also become an artist and established Henry’s Trust, which aims to raise funds to help him achieve an independent lifestyle.

On news of receiving his award Fraser said: “I’m absolutely honoured to receive this award. To be selected to join a list with such amazing people on it, alongside Matt Hampson, someone who has constantly inspired me, is extremely overwhelming.”

Damian Hopley, RPA Group CEO, said: “Henry has shown a truly remarkable attitude following his accident and his achievements since that day serve as an inspiration to all us. His positive outlook on life is quite amazing and demonstrates why he is so deserving of this Award.”

The RPA Blyth Spirit Award in association with Towergate Insurance is given to an individual or group who has shown remarkable courage in the face of adversity, and is voted for by the RPA Players’ Board.

The Rugby Players’ Association looks after the collective welfare interest of the 650 current male and female RPA members in England, as well as over 380 former players.
